Dear Resident,

I am writing to you as a resident of Hertford Heath about the ongoing issues on London Road.  I think it is clear to us all that there are two problems on this road: the speeding and the danger that pedestrians face when crossing near the Foxholes Farm entrance.

To update you on what action I have taken on this, I have been in frequent communication with Hertfordshire County Council (HCC).  When looking at the issue of London Road – Vicarage Causeway bend, the current proposal is for a point-to-point average speed check system to be installed on London Road.  This proposal would involve upgrading two lamp columns and would be the first system like this in the country.

On the issue of crossing further up the road, HCC is due to install new “Children Crossing” signs with amber flashing lights – often referred to as “wig-wags” – on each approach to the double bends at the Foxholes entrance.  The posts for these new signs have already been installed but I have been notified that there has been a delay in the supply of the signs themselves from the manufacturer.  I am working to ensure that these new “wig-wags” are installed as soon as possible.  Furthermore, Highway designers at HCC are looking at the possibility of providing a continuous footway or cycleway from the village to the A414.  This is in its early stages.

This is where I need your help.  I need to be able to demonstrate residents’ views on the proposals.  My personal view is that too many motorists drive dangerously down the road, resulting in two serious incidents at the London Road – Vicarage Causeway bend in September 2020 alone.  However, as your MP, it is important that my voice is your voice.  As such, I would like as many Hertford Heath residents as possible to email me with the following information.  Please provide your full name and postal address when doing so.

  1. Do you support or oppose an average speed check system being installed on London Road? Please detail why you think this and, if you oppose the measure, suggest an alternative measure.
  2. Do you support or oppose the installation of “wig-wags” near the Foxholes farm entrance? Again, please detail your views on this.
  3. Do you support or oppose the idea of providing a continuous footpath along London Road, from the village to the A414?

Alternatively, please post a letter, addressing it to Julie Marson MP, House of Commons, Westminster, SW1A 0AA

Yours faithfully,

Julie Marson sig
