Walks around Hertford Heath
Walking is an enjoyable way to keep fit and Hertford Heath is a beautiful area to explore. It is one of a very few patches of surviving heathland in Hertfordshire which supports a special mix of wildlife.
Surrounded by nature reserves, the village provides the ideal base from where you can discover the delights of Balls Wood or Hobbyhorse Wood all expertly managed by the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.
A set of walks was produced by Clive Gillingham. Six walks of between three and five miles start from various points around the village. Four others are shorter, starting from one and a half miles and the routes are suitable for pushchairs.
All ten maps are available in PDF format and are freely available in the DOWNLOADS LIBRARY
The East Herts Health Walks programme is part of a countrywide programme of FREE, led walks.
Walkers need to register, either online or in person before attending a walk. A programme of upcoming health walks is published and updated on the website and you can keep up to date by signing up to an e-bulletin
It’s also possible to register as a Health Walk Leader to make new friends, improve your health and help the Hertfordshire Health Walks scheme.
